Description

This ride begins at Østre Grenstøl, a small rural area surrounded by forests and rolling hills. As we head toward Fiane, the landscape opens up to peaceful countryside views—open fields, winding roads, and scattered farms that reflect centuries of agricultural life in southern Norway. The route briefly touches Holt, which was historically part of a larger rural parish and is known for its fertile land and long-standing farming traditions. Turning left at Goderstad, you follow roads that once served as key inland connections for transporting timber and agricultural goods to coastal trading hubs. These routes were especially important in the 18th and 19th centuries when local farmers and craftsmen relied on horse-drawn carts to reach markets by the sea. Passing through Strengereid, a quiet and scenic stop near the coast, we complete the loop back to Gartaveien. Strengereid was once home to small-scale maritime activity, including boatyards and trade in fish, timber, and salt—industries that shaped the economic foundation of the region.
