Kilsyth to Carron Bridge

This ride may only be 9.4kms but it's got a real mix of experiences. It takes you from the outskirts of the small central Scotland town of Kilsyth on the Forth and Clyde canal up and over the infamous Tak Ma Doon (take me down) road to Carron Bridge at the end of the Carron reservoir valley.  I used to love the Tak Ma Doon road when done North to South - i.e. downhill, but now, as I'm fitter, I love challenging myself to beat my previous uphill times.

If you are fit then maybe do this video in Challenge mode. If you want to discover how slow I still am on the hills then choose Discovery mode.  From the top of the Tak Ma Doon there are some fantastic views looking east along the River Forth almost to Edinburgh and if you turned around you can see all the way West to Glasgow and beyond - that's a 50-mile view!  But there's no stopping to admire the view on this ride as when you reach the top there is an exhilarating fast ride downhill to Carron Bridge.
