This is the first of three segments riding on the Route of the Hiawatha Rail Trail in Northeast Idaho and Western Montana. It begins by going through the 1.7 mile-long (2.7 km) St Paul Pass Tunnel.
The Route of the Hiawatha is 15 miles long and passes through 10 tunnels and 7 very-high trestles. It is one of the "crown jewels" of US Rail Trails and is in the Rail Trail Hall of Fame.
There were a number of forest fires raging in the region on this day, hence the hazy horizons.
