Cerknica Lake 🛶 Underworld Gates 🔈

Many pit holes, estavelles and the like lead the water into or out of the vast karst cave system in the mountains on the western side of the valley. Follow me on a safe distance along that side of the lake!

Lake Cerknica (Slovene: Cerkniško jezero; German: Zirknitzer See; oft attributed as Magic lake, or Mystic lake) is - according to a Slovene tourist organization booklet - the European largest intermittent lake, area wise. You have to "catch" it while it is there, since most of the time there is not much more then fields to be seen.
