The Polders of Kruibeke constitute an extensive natural and floodplain area located in the municipality of Kruibeke, Belgium. Covering a whopping 600 hectares, it stands as the largest floodplain area in Belgium. The Polders of Kruibeke serve as a true haven of natural beauty. Strategically integrated into the government’s ingenious Sigma Plan, the Polders of Kruibeke aim to protect inhabited areas from flooding. The area is designed to balance flood control with safety and nature conservation. During high water events, the sluices of the overflow dike open, creating spectacular waterfalls—a mesmerizing sight as vast quantities of water surge toward the nature reserve.
