Beschreibung

The rowing regatta venue "Ruderregatta" was built for the 1972 Olympics in Munich as the racing venue for rowing, canoe and kayaking.
With a length of exactly 2,23 km (1.386 miles), a width of 140 m (153.1 yards) it is used for races up to 2.000 m long.
To minimize waves and create equal conditions for all eight competition lanes, the bassin was oriented parallel to the main wind direction southwest / northeast.

The tarmac service road serves rowing trainers on bikes or skates, or driving a car to coach the rowing crews. Electric boats for trainers are also used.
During the Olympics, the service road was used by in-car commentators and film crews to keep the 41.000 strong audience informed with live reporting.

These days, the bassin with its service road is used for rowing and canoe regattas, canoe polo, swimming, running, cycling and triathlon compeitions.
Because of its smooth surface and very low traffic, the service road is a favorite among inline skaters and racing cyclists.
While filming, I noticed two swimmers in wet suits: the water temperature on this Friday at the end of May was 18°C (64.4 Fahrenheit).

The basin has a depth of 3,50 m (3.83 yards) and is recharged by ground water. It is home to trout, carp, pike, perch and eel.

The red crane you see with an extension of up to 50 m (54.7 yards) is used for bungee jumping on weekends with jumpers dipping into the bassin.
