Beschreibung

Falkirk to Brightons

This short 6.3kms ride takes you from my home town of Falkirk eastwards along the Union Canal to Brightons. The ride is all on canal towpaths so on the level. The ride starts from the Glasgow to Edinburgh railway bridge at Blinkbonny Park before joining the towpath and very quickly entering the 630m long Falkirk Tunnel. Cyclists are meant to dismount and walk through but travelling in the early hours of a weekday morning I took my chances that I would not meet anyone and cycled quickly through. The GoPro didn't cope too well with the diminished lighting - check out this cycling blog for some more realistic views of the lighting within the tunnel.

On exiting the tunnel you continue along the canal towpath past the villages of Glen Village, Hallglen, Redding, Reddingmuirhead (passing the Polmont Young Offenders Institution - even though it's not in Polmont) before finally arriving at Brightons. If you are interested my next video will take you from here on the public roads to the lovely village of Torphichen - it's all uphill though.
