Description
The Koningsdijk is a historic dike that connects the towns of De Klinge and Kieldrecht. Its origin dates back to the 17th century during the tumultuous times of the Eighty Years’ War. Originally established as a boundary between the Spanish Netherlands and the newly independent Dutch Republic, the dike served as a guarantee against potential flooding by the Dutch. Today, it offers a serene cycling path along the Belgian-Dutch border, flanked by majestic trees and picturesque landscapes 🚴‍♂️🌳. Hulst, a charming town near the Belgian border, is surrounded by picturesque landscapes. While Zeeland isn’t traditionally known for its tulip fields, in recent years, more and more of these colorful blooms have appeared in the southern province. Most of the tulip fields in Zeeland can be found in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, especially in the eastern part. In this historic region, where humans have battled water for centuries, where creeks and channels bear the scars of wartime maneuvers, and where church towers rise above the flat landscape, lies the Land van Hulst. The villages here are small, like handkerchiefs.
