Description
The Sallandse heuvelrug (Salland Hill Ridge) is a moraine created 150.000 years ago by the ice-sheets of the second-last ice age. These hills were originally forested, but became a shifting sand era due to human intervention. In the 20th century new forests have been planted to prevent erosion and produce pine woods. Moderate hills with a mixture of forests, heath and open fields make it ideal biking country. This ride starts in Hellendoorn, crosses the hill ridge laterally, and turns back north. After the hill ridge we head into flat country. But after some kilometers there is another small climb into Luttenberg (which means "small mountain" in Middle Dutch).
