The area stretches along the North Sea coastline from the city of Den Helder in the north to Zandvoort in the south. The North Holland dunes consist of a combination of sand dunes, forested areas, and wetlands. The sand dunes are constantly shifting and changing due to the wind, and are home to a variety of unique plants and animals that have adapted to the harsh coastal environment. The North Holland dunes are a popular destination for both tourists and locals, who come to enjoy the natural beauty of the area and participate in a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The area is also home to several historic sites, including the fortifications of Den Helder and the World War II bunkers in the dunes.
