Description
The Martesana Waterway (canal). It was the favorite place of Leonardo Da Vinci who also had his home here (Villa Melzi), the Naviglio della Martesana (also known as Naviglio Piccolo) is one of the 5 still navigable canals of Milan that connects the city to the Adda River. Approximately 38 km winding through the towns of the Hinterland, crossing densely urbanized areas but also skirting fields and suburbs where cycle paths and nature are the protagonists. The Naviglio della Martesana takes its waters from the Adda River, to be precise in Concesa. Its name was attributed to it directly by Francesco Sforza in 1457 (three years before work began to build it) based on the area it would have crossed.
