Pennsylvania Rd, Exeter EX4, UK
3min warm up before the climb, then 1.9kms to the top.
Stoke Woods is north of Exeter, just off the A396 road to Tiverton. The 1.2 mile (1.9km) climb maintains a steady gradient averaging 7% as it winds its way up through the trees. The sheltered, wide and smooth stretch of tarmac was included in the finale to stage 5 of the 2014 Tour of Britain, where Sky’s David Lopez covered the course in just under four minutes. It's the hill for the Exeter Wheelers hill climb annual cycling event, that sees cyclists from all over the area compete in a dash to the top of Stoke Hill. The course is just over 1 mile long – so not too far – but the killer is the average gradient of 7%!
