Re dell’Alto Lago con i suoi 2.609 m sul livello del mare, il monte Legnone offre una vista panoramica che abbraccia tutto l’arco Alpino.

Dal Rifugio Roccoli Lorla (1463 m) si imbocca il sentiero alle sue spalle per il Monte Legnone.

Percorso un breve tratto, dopo una breve discesa, seguire le indicazioni per Agrogno, continuando per il sentiero che inizia ad addentrarsi ripidamente in bosco di larici. Nei pressi di una prima baita il sentiero spiana e conduce all’Alpe Agrogno (1644 m). Dopo alcuni tratti sempre pianeggianti, la salita diventa più ripida, si sale a zig-zag fino al punto in cui il crinale si assottiglia e diventa esposto, aggirabile grazie alla presenza di corde fisse. Superato lo sperone, si giunge al valico Porta del Merli (2129 m) e poco dopo al pianoro del Bivacco Silvestri (detto anche "Cà de Legn", 2146 m). Oltre il bivacco, il percorso diventa impegnativo e sale con maggiore pendenza tra le rocce. Aiutandosi con una serie di funi metalliche in alcuni punti, si raggiunge la congiunzione della cresta ovest con la cresta nord, dove è presente un cartello segnaletico. Si continua in salita verso la cima lungo la cresta attrezzata con corde fisse per via della sua esposizione e si attaccano le ultime roccette. Dopo pochi minuti di cammino, si arriva alla grande croce posta in cima (2609 m, 3h30m dal rifugio), da cui è ammirabile gran parte dell’arco alpino, dal Monviso all’Ortles, passando per lo spettacolare Disgrazia, le cime della Val Masino, la Valle del Mera, oltre ovviamente al Lago di Como.
Si rientra per la medesima via di salita.

Note
L’escursione al Monte Legnone ha un grado di difficoltà EE e prevede un’ascesa lunga, per buona parte decisa, ripida, con tratti esposti e su roccette attrezzate con funi e gradini fissi. In presenza di neve e ghiaccio è sconsigliata la salita.

From the Roccoli Lorla refuge (1463 m), take the path behind it for Monte Legnone.

After a short stretch, after a short descent, follow the signs for Agrogno, continuing along the path that begins to enter steeply into the larch forest. Near a first hut, the path flattens and leads to Alpe Agrogno (1644 m). After a few flat stretches, the climb becomes steeper, you go up in a zig-zag way up to the point where the ridge thins out and becomes exposed, which can be circumvented thanks to the presence of fixed ropes. After crossing the spur, you reach the Porta del Merli pass (2129 m) and shortly afterwards to the plateau of the Silvestri bivouac (also called "Cà de Legn", 2146 m). Beyond the bivouac, the route becomes challenging and climbs with greater slope between the rocks. With the help of a series of wire ropes in some points, you reach the junction of the west ridge with the north ridge, where there is a signpost. Continue uphill towards the top along the ridge aided with fixed ropes due to its exposure and attach the last rocks. After a few minutes of walking, you arrive at the large cross at the top (2609 m, 3h30m from the refuge), from which you can admire a large part of the Alps, from Monviso to Ortles, passing through the spectacular Disgrazia, the peaks of the Val Masino, the Mera Valley, as well as of course Lake Como.
You return by the same way of ascent.

Note
The excursion to Monte Legnone has a degree of difficulty EE and involves a long ascent, for the most part decided, steep, with exposed sections and on rocks equipped with fixed ropes and steps. In the presence of snow and ice, the ascent is not recommended.
