Part 2 of a longer ride into the Ochil Hills , South west of Perth in Scotland. Typical Scottish summer, cloudy with outbreaks of rain. This part avoids the rain and follows some very quiet roads leading to Loch Leven, a freshwater loch adjacent to the town of Kinross. This Loch Leven (as opposed to the other sea loch on the west coast) was made famous as it acted as a prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. It is also a wild brown trout fishery. Since the middle of the 19th century, the Loch Leven strain of brown trout has been transported to many regions that were formerly far beyond the range of any trout species: Argentina, the Indian subcontinent, the Falkland Islands, Australia and New Zealand. On the long uphill section near the beginning I encountered a cyclist who had managed to jam his mudguard into his back wheel while coming down the hill at speed. He had managed to stay upright but, as the wheel wasn't turning, for about 100 metres he had cheese grated through the mudguard and the tyre ( a Schwalbe marathon) down to the threads in the carcass. Still no puncture. I was impressed!
