Stockbrühlweg 4, 7320 Sargans, Switzerland
Bahnhofstrasse 2, 8716 Schmerikon, Switzerland
Thanks to its curious rock formations, the Alpsteinmassiv is considered one of the most attractive mountain ranges of Switzerland and a paradise for climbers and anyone interested in geology. We start our ride in Sargans, in one of the most beautiful hiking regions and holiday resorts in Switzerland, the St.Gallen Rhine Valley along the borders of Austria and Liechtenstein. After about 30 km we leave the Rhine Valley and climb up to the Appenzell within the Alpsteinmassiv. We pass Appenzell and Urnäsch, two wonderful and picturesque villages and go on climbing to the Schwägalp pass at the foot of the Säntis, THE mountain and landmark of the Alpsteinmassiv. With the Schwägalp we reach the highest point of the ride. In a speedy downhill we follow the valley of Toggenburg, another scenic and famous touristique region. With the Ricken we absolve the last climb of the day and end the tour in Schmerikon on the Lake of Zürich. A long and exhausting ride, but it's worth each pedal rotation!
